Writing about web page

It’s the worlds most basic social-networking app. Text or IM it your status, it updates. Build a network, and you get updates on what everyone else in the network is doing, either by text, IM, or over the web. And there are APIs. It’s 1% of facebook, but with mobiles.

The next facebook? I can’t decide. Facebook Mobile does all this and more, but only appears to work in the US. O’Reilly seem to like Twitter, though whether that counts for anything I don’t know. I like it’s ‘do one thing well’ attitude though.

update 13/3/07 It doesn’t seem to be coping all that well with what I imagine is the rush of traffic from SxSW at the moment. Sigh…

It could be useful as a unifying service for all these other status fields on things like MSN, Googletalk, Facebook; it would be good if they all provided an API for updating themselves, which Twitter could be set up to ping. So you could update your status once, and it tells them all.
