Christmas gift ideas
Whispers.... minutes are ticking down for the year and we've reached December.... it must be nearly Christmas *boing* :) I can tell because the lovely family want me to produce a Christmas wish list... well they probably used the term "ideas for presents" but thought that was left wide open for creative interpretation ;-)

1063 review
Writing about web page http://www.fitnessfootwear.com/c-63-new-balance.aspx
So guess one of the up sides of sharing random thoughts online is that you get the occasional interesting email... this year there have been 2 notable messages that have arrived via this blog:
1) a lovely thank you note from a complete stranger who had stumbled upon my way of creating Chocolate Guinness Cake and quite obviously enjoyed it :o)
2) an offer of freebie Saucony running shoes in return for a review, offer was April... to cut a very very long story short it was nearly July when a pair of New Balance 1063 running shoes finally arrived!?
230 miles later New Balance 1063s are worn in but not yet worn out, although they are not the most comfortable footwear... they have seen me through several long road runs including a new PB marathon time *yay* :o)
Neutral build is keeping leggies going fairly evenly which keeps most pains of LSRs at bay and although would prefer more *boing* cushioned bits this pair have a few miles left in them yet...
as long as the trim at breakover point doesn't give out - unlikely scenario.
Good to be able to mention that these running shoes are actually made in a small town in the Lake District - not many running shoes can claim British build!

Inov–8 Terroc 330s and lakeland trails
Writing about web page http://www.lakelandtrails.org
Following a playful introduction to trail running via 2008 Ullswater Dirty Double found myself signing up for a full series of weekend trail running trips during 2009... my intro weekend had been a useful reckie trip, could go on & on about the electric atmosphere, fabulous people, awesome scenary, beer & partying... best stick with what NOT to wear on your feet... pulling out an old pair of slightly worn rugged trainers was possibly a touch crazy and hard work on the ankles!
So went shopping before embarking on 2009 Lakeland Trails series and went on to discover 4 great reasons to own Inov-8 Terroc 330s... Hawkeshead, Garburn, Derwentwater & Coniston :o)
Can't claim my new shoes turned me into a mountain goat but found under rocky trail conditions my feet could plant themselves with increased confidence. Cue much fun *boing* Also, they are soooo comfy and manage to stay put through boggy ground and sticky muddy fields too.
Back on road they proved to be a bit too "sticky" for long stretches on dry roads (think knee jarring) but in pouring rain they turned out to be roadie footwear of choice - gripping and wicking away excess water.
Trip to the seaside was taken in stride... turns out they cope with sand dunes and board walks too :o)
Lakeland trails ROCK
Looking forward to discovering more great reasons to own Inov-8 Terroc 330s :o)

The negative split
Writing about web page http://www.justgiving.com/cath
Just being a part of the biggest road race in the world is an experience… this was my 4th with a dream plan of ‘good for age’ time (3hr 45mins) however the sheer congestion on route meant that after a ridiculously steady start settled for soaking up the atmosphere and enjoying it!! Best I’ve ever felt on route and although mile 25 was a touch painful the sight of Big Ben with the promise of The Mall (finish) just kept the ‘put one foot in front of the other’ mantra going.
