Pachelbel Hell

After spreading a bit of Tim Minchin love last month, I decided it was only right to offer some more musical comedy at this festive time of year. Here’s Rob Paravonian with a brilliant rant about Pachelbel’s Canon in D. You know the tune, but does it drive you this mad? I think it gets funnier the longer it goes on.

He obviously hasn’t heard that Coolio track “I’ll see you when I get there…”

  1. Personally I think that Canon in D is one of the greatest classical pieces ever. I also like Canon Rock, but not any of the pop songs that just use Canon in D as a backing track, they’re lame

It’s a ground bass, what does he expect?

My trick was just to get very very drunk before playing it. Then I’d launch into it at least double speed and the fiddles would have no choice but to struggle along with steam coming off their finger boards. Ah, happy days.

It’s also the easiest £50 I would ever make in weddings…

I despise Canon. Yes, it’s easy. I’m pretty sure I’ve fallen asleep playing it, though, it’s so boring.

  4. I’d imagine the difficulty depends on which instrument you’re playing.
