Muhammed Cartoon Protest

Why is there another (supposedly bigger) protest in London today against the cartoons that were printed in foreign newspapers?

While I have some – conditional – sympathy for their cause, there was one last weekend, and hasn't the story passed now?

It would appear not. An Italian minister has just been sacked for wearing a t-shirt with one of the cartoons on, 10 people have died in Libya in protests about this (the t-shirt, not the sacking). In my mind, it seems quite strange for protests to go on this long, about anything, but maybe they do and we're just being told about them, for once???

  2. I suppose that as long as there's no more shit-stirring in the western media, the protesters will eventually run out of steam. And I think peaceful protests are a healthier reaction than Holocaust cartoons.

Does anyone else chuckle whenever headlines mention "cartoon riots"/"cartoon violence"? It's an unfortunate phrase to use when there are actual people being killed.

  3. You think it's been a while…

I remember when I was last in the Chinese consulate in Manchester I was accosted by an aged Irish man who claimed to have been there every day for the past ten years protesting about the Government's treatment of the Falung Gong.
