A question of sport
Question. Does anyone actually like Ashley Cole? Please identify yourself in the comments. No, not you Cheryl.
Let this extract from his recent book help you:
“Ash! Are you listening?” said a virtually hyperventilating Jonathan [his agent]. “I’m here in the office and David Dein [Arsenal Vice-Chairman] is saying they aren’t going to give you £60k a week. They’ve agreed £55k and this is their best and final offer. Are you happy with that?” When I heard Jonathan (Barnett) repeat the figure of £55k, I nearly swerved off the road. “He is taking the piss, Jonathan!” I yelled down the phone. I was so incensed. I was trembling with anger. I couldn’t believe what I’d heard. I suppose it all started to fall apart for me from then on. I’d trusted Mr Dein to push the deal through.

Apparently Dein reneged on an informal promise to bump his wages to £60k so he has a certain justification, but there’s surely a better way of putting it across.
Surely a proofreader could have pulled him up on that section and told him he was a twat.

You don’t think he actually wrote it himself do you?
It’s far more likely his ghost-writer found him to be a prat and tried to paint him in a bad light.

In which case; kudos to that ghost-writer.

How’s a man supposed to live on £55k a week? That’s a meager £2.8 million a year before sponsorship and bonuses! If they don’t love him enough to fund a comfortable life, he’s well within his life to entirely betray the club that made him who he is and sod off to their local rivals where a nice Russian man will give him whatever he asks for.

Ashley Cole isn’t trying and shouldn’t be paid, let alone picked for England, until his attitude improves.
