The end of 0870

Writing about web page http://www.saynoto0870.com/

A geek called “Daniel”, from Lancashire, has done what all geeks do best: come up with something we didn’t know we needed.

www.saynoto0870.com is a site that lets you bypass expensive 0870 telephone numbers by providing you with an alternative local-rate number instead.

The semi-anonymous creator of the site, who is a “publicity-shy government computer expert” according to the Times, reckons £1million a year has been saved by people using his site.

British Airways said their 0870 helpline helped fund their UK-based call centres and were unapologetic for the added cost.

Daniel’s website is a brilliant idea and one I fully intend to exploit next time I have to complain to NTL (which on past form is likely to be this week).
