Hooray for Stagecoach

Amusing things seem to happen on Stagecoach buses. They always seem to happen to Jimbo (and sometimes Rob too), but very very occasionally I will be lucky enough to witness something funny. For example;

Two weeks ago I was on the bus coming onto campus, and as some people got off at the University House stop, the drunkard who had got on at Kenilworth shouted after them, "Thank you for flying with Stagecoach!"

Last week, an old woman got on the bus at the top of the Parade. I was on a seat on my own, and nearer to me was a copy of that day's Metro publication. The lady asked me to pass it to her, which I did, and she then said "Oh, you are a lovely girl!" and proceeded to give me half a bag of grapes. She then went and gave the bus driver the rest of the bag of grapes for driving the bus. As I got off, she called after me, "Bye, Emily!"

It later occurred to me that I had met that same old lady at the bus stop at the top of the Parade last year after coming home from Bambi's one day, only she was going in the opposite direction, and that time she called me Harriet, and said hello to everyone that walked past the bus stop.

She's cool. I hope I'm like her when I grow up.

  1. I want to go mad before I become incapable of moving. I don't want to be able to watch my body fail (further), if the mind has already gone then its cool :)

    Buses are where old people belong. Means they're not driving Rover's or Hyundai's at 5mph everywhere.

    Old age is scary, better to die young whilst you still have control over all of your faculties (at least ones not destroyed by alcohol abuse).

  3. Thank you for your comments. Dying young would only be cool if you did it in some uncool, cliched stylee, ironically enough. I'd go for drug overdose, personally. However, I should point out I don't intend to die young…

    Conincidentally, I have just got off a bus from campus, and it was the bus driver I call Cliff Richard. Aparently, he also gets called "Wiggy", as there used to be no hair, and now there strangely is… Hmmm… That's testosterone for you…

    ODing is so rock n roll, unless you want 2 do an Elvis I guess. Lots of easy ways to die (bit morbid, think thats a song anyway), had this discussion with my flatmate earlier who said carbon-monoxide was the most painless (sounds like a song in itself).
    Strange thing to think about really.

  9. Yes she was! She's well cool! Hello Anna – I didn't know you had a blog, but I'm thrilled to discover you are! I think all members of Consort should have one!
