The uniqueness of the web & marketing in it….

Interesting article by Spencer Kelly of the BBC’s click. Its an internet marketing primer in plain english and does manage to cover current & major marketing channels available on the web for advertisers.
Let me give a summary – the first channel discussed was viral marketing (although it was not stated to be viral marketing), examples include the online game of the TV series Lost and the downloadable flash game of the Samual L J movie- Snakes on a plane.
The second channel was a new channel called blogvertising which involves monetising blogs by getting bloggers to endorse products or services.
The third and fourth channels were the all too familiar search engine advertising and search engine optimisation.
The final channel mentioned was social marketing which is a relatively new marketing channel that relies on building publicity through social networking websites.
This article just reminds me of uniquness of the web and web marketing in general. This is because when I was researching on web marketing channels about 12 months ago, 2 channels mentioned above were virtually none existent – they were social marketing & blogvertising.
