Human beings, vegetables, or cosmic dust, we all dance to a mysterious tune, intoned in the distance by an invisible player.

A rainy day.

More often than not, rain is a sign of hope, happiness and wealth in india. It implies that mumbaikars have more hope, happiness and wealth. It rains too much in Mumbai and sometime when it starts, it looks like it will never stop.

That Friday was such a day and Sheela was coming back from Colaba after a hectic day. On her way to CST, she was looking out of the red BEST bus and watching some kids playing in the rain. Thery were smiling, looking happy, full of hope but certainly very very far from being wealthy. But they were happy for sure. "They don't work long hours like me", Sheela was thinking, "they even don't think about tomorrow and they don't have to go to bed with a pumping heart and mental unrest."

"tan –tan – tan" ringed the bell of the bus, " Chatrapti Shivaji… Chatrapati Shivaji," conductor yelled. Sheela rushed toward the exit while trying to walk normally; her left foot was numb. She made her way toward the railway station.

Online Jenga

Couple of weeks ago, I visited one of my friend's house and her house–mates were playing an interesting game with some wooden pieces. Later, I came to know that it is called Jenga. I found it quite amusing. In that game, players keep on increasing the height of a pillar made by wooden bricks, by taking bricks from the lower parts of the tower and put them on the top. As you must have guessed, if the structure is not stable, it collapses. The person who has successfully moved the bricks last, will be the winner. I also tried my luck and I found myself good in the game, so I ordered it from amazon for 10 £.

There is a very interesting simulation of the game available on the internet. This simulation is quite interesting, as it models real life phenomenon quite closely. Try it yourself:

online shared drawing program

Have you ever felt the necessity of working with your friends/collaborators online in the same way as you do while working together over a blacboard?

Today my supervisor had this idea and asked me to look for some program like that, so that we can discuss while he is out of station. I googled several keywords like " drawing together", "online drawing" and thing like that. Finally I tried "online shared drawing" and to my great surprise, I bumped into imaginationcubed website supported by GE. It was, I should say, love at first sight :). As the flash player was initializing, I knew that I'm gonna love it. Why google has not come up with this idea first :).

Now only thing left is to connect this program with a latex engine in the background and I am sure it would be a killer application. To make it even more killing, they should add voice conferencing and this will be the application for the researchers.

Hello google, yahoo and MSN, are you listening?

Try yourself and see:

How Will I Die??

You scored as Natural Causes. Your death will be by natural causes, though not by any diseaese, because that is another option on this test. You will probably just silently pass away in the night from old age, and people you love won't realize until the next morning, when you are all purple and cold and icky. So be happy, you won't be murdered.

My Wishlist of software

I hope someday system administraters (DCS@warwick) will be able to install these softwares, which probably will take no more than 5 minutes to install:

1. Latex Beamer Class.

2. The Ipe extensible drawing editor.

3. AUCTeX : a tool for formatting and viewing LaTeX documents in xemacs. It also includes preview-latex, using which you can see selected chunks of the code using LaTex, within your favourity XEmacs editor.

and I wish someone will write following software eventually (i.e. before I get the time to write them :))

4. A tool which looks for citations in a document on bibliography search websites (BibFinder, CiteSeer ) automatically and append a Bibtex entry in the latex main file.

5. A tool which categorizes papers, according to their keywords, years etc.,
for a given query again by searching on-line search engines. This will save a lot fo time for graduate students.
