The first blog entry

I had good intentions of starting a blog about my research project on The cultural status of genealogical research way back last August when my Leverhulme Early Career Fellowship started, but clearly I didn't quite get round to it. At last I have been prodded into action by Rebecca Leach's piece on Blogology in Spring edition of Network, the magazine of the British Sociological Association. In this she argued that academics should use blogs more, both as a way to rehearse their thoughts, and as a way to release research findings in a more timely and accessible manner than academic publishing normally allows. Given I'm only starting the blog halfway through the project, I suppose my next blog should begin by explaining what the research project is about...
