Gandhian Engineering and Convex Lens Leadership..!

Guys,

Today I wish to share with you, this video that I found.. It is from this video, that I came across these wierd looking terms that I put as the title of this blog..

http://www.ted.com/talks/r_a_mashelkar_breakthrough_designs_for_ultra_low_cost_products.html

At first, half way through this video, I was still in doubt, is this true, could he be joking!?

Does something like Gandhian Engineering truly exist? I must say, it does make me think, does the world really have the potential, which can be convexed together, just with the inputs of right leadership, to one goal which may sound absolutely ridiculous in the beginning?

If such can be possible, this makes me think about the previous African Education System video even more.. We must get to it now.. It really bothers me, that only because of lack of effective leadership, we are not using our technological potential to the fullest, and that to without even realizing it!

What do you guys think!?

  1. Great video Awal, thanks for sharing! I love both the concepts that were presented in it. I think this ties in really well with CSR in general too… If Tata, and others, can achieve such things with a small team redefining the way we work, then this should be definitely be applicable to social and environmental causes. There is clearly plenty more that companies can do, there just needs to be the strong desire to do it. That’s up to leadership, and we need to be a part of that.

  2. Great Video which may provide a lot of thinking. Unfortunately people do not realize that there is the potentiality to do it good by doing it well. The sensitive side of people is not alive, we only think in terms of money, and this create a world in which CSR one of the most important aspect of excellence is not included…...... But this video is a good example why CSR is not something that holds back the organizations but it can have great potentialities like innovation…...... Thank you for sharing this.

  3. I am totally convinced guys.. Leadership has no end to it.. When Paul says, “I simply told the army men, it is your wish if you want to live in a pig sty” or “Come to me with a solution, not with the problem” it sounds so simple.. BUt when challenges like this are seen ahead, it really shivers me for once.. Will we be able to deliver leadership abilities to even a fraction of this some day!?

  4. Absolutely. What is there to stop us? Just keep putting yourself in that leadership position, keep learning, and though you might not be a natural, the fact that you want to be able to lead so well will be the thing that drives you to get there. That’s my opinion anyway – it’s just like any other skill/ability you might want to improve; it requires practice, practice, practice… And for what it’s worth, I definitely think you have everything required to be an effective leader Awal :-)

Vagelis, you’re right. The idea that behaving responsibly in business, and that being the major driver of your profit (e.g. producing anything ultra-low-cost, for the people earning less than a dollar a day), is a beautiful one. It’s quickly becoming an area of focus in my project.

  5. The only thing that can stop you is your self…............
