WMG—–PLUS and NEGTIVE points!!—Reflective thinking

I am not sure if my class mates would agree if I have changed over the last 6 months. Well I would not lie. Warwick has changed me for the better. I see my self more patient and confident a person. Initially when I cam to warwick I did not like it and I hated the wmg style to teaching. The 9 to 6 classes and sitting at home and working on your pma. I really felt it made one anti social.......but I realised I have become more pateint as a person. Developing certain skills here and dealing with different issues has made me more confident a person.....

Well the class journey is almost coming to an end. I am definately going to miss our class a lot!! I love my class mates but in a way I am happy to be done with the 9 to 6 classes!! Its very tedious and by the end of it one is so saturated and barely can pay attention to what the professor has to say!!

Continous Improvement

Be it Organisational learning, Deming, Efqm or Hoshin Kanri....they all talk about continout improvement. All have different ways of getting there. While Deming has his own theories such as profound knowledge, 14 points, Efqm has enablers and results, OL had the single loop and double loop cycles, and Hoshin Kanri has has the pdca cycle. They all tend to focus on continous improvent according to me.

Our class too has continously improved, be it mini projects or pmas or coming to class on time...haha

CBE PMA & Gilberts view on bloging

To be honest I too havent been very effective in terms of time management when it comes to the CBE PMA. I am just half way through and the deadline is this Monday. This week I put in a lot of hours in the miniproject. I would be surprised if I put in 20 hours on the project.

But I do agree with Gilbert that we put in much more effort in the mini projects than blogging and the mini projects should carry more weightage. But now when I look back my critical analysis has improved because of bloging but I do feel it should probably be 10% of our grade and not 17 %.

Deming– Profound Knowledge and leadership

After reading Demings Profound knowledge I realised that a leader has to be knowledgeable and intelligent. He must understand and appreciate the system and the reason for variation. But this is against what we talked about in class. The whole class agreed on "Anyone can lead" as long as he or she can get work from others. Then were we wrong in class? I think may be. I think its very important for a leader to know whats happening with a good presence of mind. He needs to be intelligent. But one can work hard to be intelligent as we discussed in class by reading or by experience so in the end it does boil down to any one can be a leader or we would not have the leadership module......

Oragisational learning

While studying organisational learning and demings and efqm I never thought of similaritites between them but as I work on my PMA I realise that these topics are quite related. I cant stop staring at my screen when i see similarities between the plan do chk act cycle and the single and double loop.  Never did it strike me that all three ol and deming and efqm  emphasize on continous improvement and team work. Would I have known how knowledge of variation could probably help an Learning Organisation adapt to External Surrounding.

Efqm Deming and learning org

Golden Rule of learning org......

Thrive on Change

  • don't be scared
  • Learning Organisations feed on change
  • go all the way (no half-way house); committed; focused
  • know objectives; plan

  1. Encourage Experimentation
  2. experimentation is a necessary risk
  3. individual input rewarded
  4. encourage throughout the company

  • Facilitate Learning from Employees
  • encourage participation and experimentation (linked to point 2)
  • invest in training - multiskilling (getting most from employees), morale
  • empowerment/responsibility
  • remove hierarchy

  • Reward Learning
  • everybody's wants their work to be appreciated - boost morale !!
  • benchmarks for performance appraisal
  • rewards

  • care for the individual
  • ways of implementing this care

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I think efqm can help in benchmarking  for communicating sucess and faliure.

may be giving good examples of benchmarking can help in pma

Efqm also helps to have clear goals according to me

Deming helps to improve quality acordint to me

These are a few aspects I want to look into
