Finance, Democracy and Strategy

Hey again,

So the whole "writing a blog" thing never really happened for me. I had hoped to write an entry a week, but instead it's turned into an entry a term!

The big news of my life from the past month is that I won my election to be Finance, Democracy and Strategy Officer of the Union for next year!

If anyone does stumble onto this blog (and to be honest I'm not exactly sure how you stumble onto blog's unless they are on the main page) then I'd like to hear your comments about the Union.

Finance, Democracy and Strategy covers pretty much every area of the Union (except campaigning on education issues) so I would love to hear comments about how we can improve the Union.

Cheers,
AJ

Hey AJ, nice to see you writing a blog mate, hope you continue to do so when you are the FDSO.

Hey Udayan, nice to see you too!

I definitely intend to continue writing a blog next year. I really think that as a Sabb I should try and be visible and contactable. Having a blog is one way of doing that, and I also want to try kitchen touring and writing the occasional article in the Boar. If you (or anyone else) have any other ideas I'd be interested in hearing them.

    Cheers,
    AJ

  3. Last year, Simon, Carly, Gaz, and Andy all had blogs, which I thought was really cool since it was basically another communication medium between the Union and the general student body. I'm not sure why none of this year's team have bothered, especially after Simon said he would hand his blog over to Kat.

Hopefully if AJ keeps this one open it will encourage some of his co-Sabbs to do likewise.

Only just came across this post – might be an idea to have an FDSO blog as well as a general sabb one – another way of making the union finances more transparent?
General publicity is a big area i think – kitchen tours seem to be the best way of doing this, but apart from the elections, i haven't seen a single sabb anywhere near our kitchen. Only two of my housemates knew what union council was, and that's because we're on it – a few controversial referendum topics always raises a discussion though ;)
