just found this link from another post in the Warwick blog.. I can't believe I've only been to 9% of the world! and I've actually visited 21 countries (yes i keep count... and one of them was actually Hong Kong pre hand-over, so I decided that I have visited today's China! is that cheating as I haven't actually been anywhere on "mainland" China) sigh still a looong way to go to travel 50% of the world then

not that I'm complaining! I absolutely love travelling, except for the "getting-there" part. It takes me 18 hours of pure flying time just to get home from here. If you add the transit, packing and transfer to and from the airport, then it's about 24 hours.. add a 7 or 8 hours difference (depending on the time of the year) and you've got a very cranky me! small tho I mite be, I've been told the jet-lagged version of me is a force not to be reckoned with!

not very much I've realized.. a few years ago, my goal was to have travelled 20 countries by the time I turn 20. Alas, I couldn't reach that goal so I extended my deadline to 20 countries when I'm 20, i.e. before I turn 21. and yay! I had been to 21 countries by the time I turned 21!

Next goal: 30 countries by my 3oth birthday. Watch out world, here I come! Jet-lag and all…

A Tribute to the Learning Grid (just in case…) — Bomb in LG?

Hah! I hope not! As wrong as this may seem, I actually loooove the Learning Grid. I belive it is something every university in the world needs!

It provides the perfect combination between socialising and studying, complete with the wireless Internet, printers, scanners, PC clusters, book clusters and the freedom to talk, walk around, drink and eat!! Perfect! What more could a social and hard-working Warwick student want?

And the terrorists are just vying to destroy our way of life.. hence the attempted "bombing" of our beloved LG!

There I was, lil innocent me, minding my own business, trying to get into work when security people started rushing people out of the building as they have found an unattended bag on the second (or first floor as it is called here in UK) floor that is padlocked onto the chair. They have been unsuccessful in identifyin the owner. Hence, please evacuate the Learning Grid.

What I found funny was the fact that when leaving the LG, people just stood there right outside LG, in the lobby (i.e. the space between LG and the University House canteen). Simply because, what, if the bomb was to explode, the LG will contain it? With no debris/shattered glass/desks/chairs/computers/books thrown outside its window into the rest of the University House building? If that doesn't indicate the real power of the LG, then I don't know what does!

Anyways, here I am in the computer room next to the library as it is the only place in Uni left open at this time of the night. I was hoping that I could do some work before returning to the Grid, but I guess the motivation to do work is the sole property of LG. We will surely miss you, LG

PS: I'm just kidding about the bomb. It actually belongs to a friend of a friend.. Honest!! But apparently the security office has already triggered the standard bomb threat procedure (which I wasn't even aware of) and it cannot be recalled even after we told them we know the owner of the suspected bag! A bit inefficient I must say… but that's for next time, folks!

What kind of People can even think about doing something of this magnitude in the Revolting scale? (excuse the silly attempt on the phrase "Richter scale")

Just one simple question in my head: I don't even want to know why some people want to perform such "despicable" actions, but merely how they even came up with such an idea? Just how do their brains work, how their nerves are connected in their brain to create such an output??

I give up… I just give up. I guess somethings are not meant to be understood. Or if it is, maybe I'd rather not. I refuse to acknowledge that people, human beings, can inflict such pain to others. I just refuse.

Ligers — Check The Size of These Animals!!

I just found out about these Ligers - they’re freaking huuuuge!! Apparently, they can grow up to 12 feet high (standing on their hind legs) and weigh 1000 pounds (about 450 kilograms). Now that’s one cat I don’t wanna mess with!

Where Ligers are the product between a male Lion and a female Tiger, their counterparts are called Tigons, i.e. male Tiger with female Lion. These Tigons however are nowhere near as big as Ligers. In fact, Tigons are usually smaller than either parents.

This is because a female Lion and a male Tiger contribute growth-inhibiting genes to their descendats, while male Lion and female Tiger contribute growth-promoting ones.

Under normal circumstances, a pure-breed Lion/Tiger are limited in growth. However, a Liger only gets the growth-promoting genes without the growth-inhibiting ones, and therefore will continue to grow forever (theoretically). On the opposite side, a Tigon inherits growth-inhibiting genes from both its parents without any growth-promoting ones, i.e. they become much smaller than their parents and their distant “cousins.”

Imagine having one of these in your homes.. forget guard dogs, get a guard Liger!

Dissertation III

…sigh

it seems my life has completely stopped and instead been engulfed and replaced by a much larger (and nastier) force called the dissertation, and judging by the number of students around me in this so called land called the Learning Grid, at least I know I'm not alone

Notice how the word "dissert" in "dissertation" sounds like the word "desert" as in "to leave empty or alone; abandon" (courtesy of dictionary.com).. perhaps a hint that once you enter this state, your life will be "empty or alone," as you abandon E-V-E-R-Y-T-H-I-N-G else in your life (including sleep and food.. and just forget about any form of entertainment)... and I think there goes my sense of humor sigh goodbye cruel cruel world…
