Damn you, society.

The process of integrating myself into society is proceeding as planned; I am on the electoral roll this year, I have a new passport, and have now even registered with the NHS.

The nurse alleged this morning that my blood pressure is slightly high; this doesn’t sound great when there’s also a family history of heart problems. Still, I’m reassuring myself that most of that must be due to leaving only five minutes to get to the surgery this morning; combined with not knowing where it was, and then walking entirely the wrong way down the road through misjudging the direction of the street numbers. I don’t think there’s that much salt in my diet. Or perhaps I’m just nervous around health professionals.

So, ahem, it was probably temporary stress. But even so, I’m going to use this as a handy excuse to enjoy a healthier diet, and do more exercise. It can’t hurt. The booklet I got handed suggests seven to nine portions of fruit and vegetables a day, which sounds a lot more appetising than what I currently eat. Exercise reportedly provokes all kinds of brain chemistry, so must be good.

We’ll get to find out whether I’m really going to have a cardiac arrest in my twenties, when I get another check-up next week. Perhaps ignorance is bliss. :)

My blood pressure’s back down again. The nurse thinks it was the stress of term-time, but we all know the fall is entirely attributable to my recent GNU...
