Time for a post about the election
I find myself currently switching between Labour and Lib Dem.
I come from a family of hard core North Wales Labour activitists – My Gran has lifetime party membership in recognition of services to the party and a letter from Mr Kinnock thanking her for her work. Recent events have somewhat dented my support for the New Labour cause – Iraq, support for Bush, trust in the leadership, rather totalitarian approach to law and order.
I currently seem to have greater political affinity with the Lib Dems on many issues, but remain to be convinced in their economic know how and suitability for government. Reading their manifesto today and there was a lot to like – but you know – memories of the 80s debacles and the sense that they are all a bit too liberal, if you know what I mean. Time brings a certain conservatism and hard line approach to certain issues that some who know me would think didn't sit will with the Lib Dem agenda…
Hmmm. A difficult decision. Any student party activists who wish to fight for my vote on behalf of their party are free to lobby me via comments!
BTW - the single thing that annoys me most about the election is the constant harping on about the need for everyone to vote and how the parties are desperately trying to engage with the electorate to make sure turn out is high – sorry but that is bullshit. Parties are desperate to engage with the 800,000 voters who will decide the marginals – they couldn't give a flying monkeys butt about my vote, living in a fairly safe tory seat. You see, Lib Dem or Labour, the most tempting option at the moment is not to bother voting at all – and I think that is pretty sad really. If anyone from the Stratford Liberal Democrats or Labour Party read this and want to take me up on it, please feel free. It would actually be nice to hear from somebody – anybody.
PS - it goes without saying that I would never sell my soul to the lord of darkness – My blood stays with me, thankyou very much!
