Macride 2008

I was aiming to do a 100km ride sometime this year, if possible, and when I discovered the Macride is was hard to resist the opportunity to use the effort to raise some money for a very worthy cause while I was at it. So, on Sunday September 7th I’ll be setting off from Stratford for a 63 mile ride around the “quiet lanes through picturesque countryside around Stratford-upon-Avon” (as the website puts it).
I guess having done a couple of 50 mile rides previously I’m not expecting the distance itself to be a particular challenge, so I’m going to aim to complete the distance in 4 hours. Maintaining an average speed of 16mph over that distance should be hard enough to make it interesting!

This is the first time since I was a kid that I’ve done a sponsored event of any kind, so I’m not aiming for any particular total as I’ve no idea what to expect. I’m also not the sort of person that finds it easy to ask people for money, even for a worthy cause, so my active fundraising is going to be useless. Starting to publicise it just three weeks before the event is one piece of evidence for this:-)

I was going to do this and then decided I wasn’t fit enough – but now methinks there could be a challenge on!
