AHDB Aphid News

The latest edition of AHDB Aphid News has been released (week ending 16 September):

  • Peach–potato aphids were captured in suction traps at Kirton (10), Hereford (2) and Starcross (1).
  • Mealy cabbage aphids were found at five sites. All of which were single aphids apart from Kirton (9).
  • Five willow-carrot aphids (Cavariella aegopodii) were captured at Kirton. No male individuals were found.
  • One potato aphid was cpatured at Hereford.
  • Black bean aphids were caught at York (1) and Broom's Barn (1).
  • Pea aphids were caught at Hereford (2) and Starcross (3).



Pest update from Wellesbourne

Between 18th and 21st September our 3 yellow water traps captured:

  • Cabbage root flies - 60 male and 13 female
  • Bean seed flies - 104
  • Pollen beetles - 6
  • Flea beetles - 30
  • Cabbage stem weevil - 0
  • Cabbage seed weevil - 0
  • Cabbage stem flea beetle - 2

We caught 1 carrot fly on 3 sticky traps in our second sowing of carrots.

There were no diamond-back moths, no silver Y moths, no cabbage moths and 1 turnip moth in our traps (2 traps per pest).

There were 42 cabbage root fly eggs around our 15 brassica plants.
