Inspiration for research – by Elena

Hi everyone,

My name is Elena and this is my first blog ever. I am a first year PhD student at Warwick in Classics and Ancient History Department. I would be happy if by sharing my own research experience I could bring a small contribution to PhD Life Blog. Since coming to the University of Warwick, I have been lucky enough to find a great research environment and lovely colleagues.

Have you ever come across someone who managed to make a difference in your life as soon as you’ve met? Well today I would like to share a small story about one of my colleague who inspired me as a researcher through her abilities to manage personal life and research. She is dedicated and passionate about her research. She brought together two of her biggest loves: Latin language and animals. Isn’t that great? The secret ingredient of her successful research story is LOVE. Her ability to manage her life (which includes her husband, three children, mother and a cat) and research i.e. to read Pliny, come at Warwick Library and struggle to finder her favourite Latin poet or writer books from the mobile shelves.

Moreover, she would always find time to discuss her ideas and thoughts, encourage colleagues, write postcards for Christmas or enjoy a big Costa coffee and accompany you after your presentation. She is even troubled by the idea that one day she would have to say ‘Good bye’ to her books and study at Warwick…

From her I learned that happiness and research can go hand in hand and that research can bring not only ideas but also friends together.

Thank you My colleague/Friend!
