Where did it all go wrong?
Bashed out a session of MTTs last night and while I managed to FT the Warwick 8 game as well as the HU, even closing the HU when Callum graciously allowed me to flip him (never in doubt from that point) instead of let me get owned by a mere SNG player, I won 11 dimes having come 2nd [1] in a $75 on Full Tilt. Was extremely happy with the way I played, including a nice small 3 bet to “induce” a shove from the button only to find out I was flipping with his QTo anyway. Swongs. When we got HU I was dropping all sorts of angles like “am a 1/2 HU reg” etc which didn’t get much of a reception from him in the deal making sense. I certainly would have preferred a deal since we were playing HU for $5k but instead decided to let him win despite a couple of fairly sick call downs from me. I lost AQ vs AK for a huge pot then won A9 vs AJ before finally losing 77 vs A3 for the rest of the loot after a river raise went wrong when he semi-tank-called top pair.
Still, it’s enough of a win to grant myself a day off and update the somewhat neglected blog as well as catch up on all the awful American TV shows I love so much. Also I suppose I can justify booking a hotel in Hong Kong now rather than opt for slumming it on the exceptionally clean streets.

Back home, what an awesome holiday
In the interests of continuity I ought to let you all know how Estonia finished. I played one more SNG and came 5th in a spot I may have been able to fold (chip leader effectively shoved button at 300/600 I have 3k and A6s). Whatever though.
I did manage to make a bit of a name for myself in the turbo €110 tourney where I binked a final table for around $700. The average stack at FT was around 6 BBs and I couldn’t win 3 flips.
Not to be one-upped, Tommo had the pleasure of beating Keys heads up to scoop himself a PCA package and a good few stacks of high society while i’m sure Keys himself won’t be hanging himself over the $108k or so he pocketed. In a fashion that wouldn’t be out of place in a Party Poker “VIP” event, the trophy had enscribed on the bottom “545 EEK” which to the well informed is around $55. Marvellous.
The ensuing piss up was a mixture of vodka and cokes and complimentary bottles of Dom Perignon from the very lovely people at Pokerstars. It was all getting a bit too much for me and decided to crash out of the “Hollywood” club at what people reckon must have been about 3-4am.
The flight home was largely uneventful other than doing off 31 points at chinese poker and Tommo offering to buy the whole plane gin and tonics, which Easyjet promptly took up. I also lost £20 on scratch cards, but Tommo covered the cost since I netted less winning than him.
I’m on the home straight of importing 2.5M hands or so as well as trying to transfer websites/flog off advertising space so I can get back to the grind of $1/2 (!) tomorrow.
It really was quite an amazing holiday to have two good friends 1 2 the tourney. Also a good excuse for badgering them to come out next year.

Estonia in the house
Seem to be using up all my run good at once in Estonia. Have played 3 SNGs so far, $110, $110 and $220. Have finished in 3rd ($200), chopped 1st ($400) and chopped first ($865) respectively. All 3 obviously ran pretty well, the 1st and 3rd was even stack with the shortest stack on the bubble and the mugs decided to get it in in pretty bad spots and the 2nd one had a pretty commanding lead on the bubble before chopping it up with Tommo. Managed to bink Q4 vs AJ, AK vs Q8, AJ vs K8 on the 3rd 3 and 4 handed for all the gold before doing a chip chop with mongy so pretty pleased with that.
Putting myself through the trauma of playing the big one tomorrow though so hopefully will wake up in time without too much of a hangover in order to not doing anything stupid. I think my general hand reading and soul reading has been fine so far but could perhaps improve on my overall strategy as things all kicked off on a discussion of Keys limping the button with 85o and me leading J4cc on A2x with 2 clubs.
Food is very behind-the-iron-curtain so far, had wild boar today which was very nice in a quaint little restaurant in the old town (a UNESCO heritage site so wikitravel reliably informs me) and a not so great duck yesterday.
But the wodka [sic] and cokes have been flowing reasonably cheaply and quickly so it’s not all doom and gloom on the food and drink side and hopefully will be able to go the whole 1st level without resorting to perching on the bar hearing about Shaun Deebs [1] escapades of having a gun drawn on him in Warsaw while winning a 3 handed high rollers event.
Hope everyone in the UK is fine and not having to tolerate 6 degree with 40mph wind weather like us slumming it in a plush 5* hotel are.

Game over, insert coin to play again
So unis all finished, i’m back at home doing what I do best – playing poker 6 hours a day :) Day 1 at the grind started off well winning $2.3k and clearing a $600 bonus on top (as well as the assorted rakeback and things). Went for a curry last night and bit of pubbing so a bit hungover today but will probs get on the grind anyway being the chief breadwinner for myself now :D
Still really excited about France now – probs gonna go to some Lily Allen concert in Monte Carlo (I know I know, I think shes alright tho guilty pleasure) as well as a few miche’s and the races etc. Looking forward to going round art galleries and checking out how ridic expensive the paintings are.
BTW, looks like West Midlands is being hit pretty hard with flu at the moment – pretty glad I bailed when I did!!!

AdSense doesn't make sense
Well I left the AdSense banners up on the left for a week or so and got a whopping 0 clicks. I don’t think it’s worth having up there even if I am freerolling at monies since it makes the blog a bit ugly. Also I can’t remember if I signed a T&Cs for Warwick Blogs that might have some soft of revenue generating thing in it IDK.
Had an $8k upswing last week but lost $800 today. Have lots and lots of WSOP action as well as a bit of FTOPS action so still in for a sweat :D

Exam season and BBJ madness
It’s very much exam season round here as everyone seems to be grinding the shit out of work and not doing much fun stuff. That said, I managed to fit in a go karting session when I wasn’t in a casino or in front of my computer :)
Last week was WaSOP and GUKPT – I only ended up playing the £220 and £330 in the GUKPT and didn’t make the first break in either. I final tabled the WaSOP but played a hand bad to finish 8th. I won a pretty big last longer though and I won £300 at 3 card poker – degeneracy pays off.
I’ve been playing a ton of cash on Party. Its been going well but i’ve yet to hit the elusive BBJ, currently its $583k and last week it got up to over $700k before hitting at an NL50 table. Must be nice.
Big presentation in for Friday which is nearly done, then its off to Prague, Cambodia, Vietnam before coming back to England to do an essay and a dissertation. Then it’s 5 weeks of procrastinating before I hope a week of exams (hopefully they won’t punt one of them to week 9, which I feel they might).
I entered poker society for the societies awards and would snap take 4/1 on us winning. I did a helluva presentation for it so hopefully we’ll get the judges votes :)

More Sunday form
I seem to be running reasonably hot whenever I play MTTs at the moment, it’s probably because playing so many STTs has turned me into a good nitty nit as well as refined some pushbotting spots/constantly thinking about ICM. I made 2 final tables tonight, 2nd in the iPoker $5k and 3rd in the Party $10k speed. Not huge scores by any means – I broke even for the night, but I went deep in tons of other stuff (huge blow up on Crypto, decent sized blow up in iPoker $30k, pretty big blow up in Pacific major – etc).
I’m feeling really good about my game at the moment, I don’t know how to take it to the next stage though. I’ve got 1 hours free coaching with Pudge from 2+2 which i’m going to use for STTs and then look into getting some cash game coaching or something – it’s expensive though, $100+/hour minimum for any half-decent coach. I’m looking forward to playing full time, having the freedom of being able to travel to more live tournaments, and if I don’t fancy that I can grind online all day, and if I don’t feel like doing that, I can basically do what I want. It’s one of the great things of living off poker, you get complete freedom. You aren’t obliged to answer to anyone and although setting targets is fun, no ones going to shout down at you for not making them.

Pretty tilted
Came 6th in the Boss €100k for €4.4k. Most disappointing. Came in as chip leader and ran pretty cold the whole final table.
Also we’re (poker soc) hosting some one world week tournament tomorrow which is a complete sham as the charity they have told us we are giving our money to is associated with Chelsea. Cunts. Never liked the idea of OWW anyway, is racist imo where’s Korea day? MY BROTHAS. Solid CV booster for those involved tho. Cynical? Me? Fuck off I just lost 4 figures in equity

Riding that wave
“Some people, pros even, won’t play No-Limit. They can’t handle the swings.” – Rounders
Good job i’m not pro eh? I’ve had 3 really swingy days, down loads then recovered at the end of the session except today I was $3k in the hole and only got to $1k in the hole. Still chin up and all that, August is +$8.3k as well as over $1k in party points and whatever from this new promotion. I got myself up to the $510s whenever they’re good and from what I saw today there are definately plenty of fish even at those dizzy heights.
Other than that, lifes pretty quiet at the moment. Making a lot of plans for Japan/researching the poker scene there a lot but I keep reminding myself I have another fucking year of school to grind out. Nevermind.

It's a full time part time grind
I took a week off and now it is well and truly back to work. I’m slacking a little bit on the hours since my girlfriend is round but i’m still getting reasonably good volume played. I played 58 yesterday and 51 today compared to an average of around 95 before. So whatever, i’m dropping like 2 hours work, big deal. It has been going very well, i’m 9.0% ROI over 1065 games and an hourly rate of $180. Up $12k since Vegas which i’m happy with so far, hopefully before October get that doubled or tripled.
Party have started a new promotion which means i’m essentially getting around 27% rakeback through promotions/party points but with additional rakeback this could be more. I’m trying to get something sorted through someone on 2+2 but Party are taking ages to respond to their email or whatever so that sucks.
Considering going to live in Japan for a year with girlfriend to check out that country + grind online. Could possibly work out quite conveniently with the late night sessions starting in early morning Japan time but there are some legality issues that might be of concern [1]. Then i’m going to save up for a few years and build a house. That’s right fuckers, i’m gonna do it.
