What are you defining as British comedy?

    12 Feb 2005, 01:39

  2. Any Comedy Made in Britain…

  3. Daisy Christodoulou

OK, ok, ok – define what comedy is in this context then – because stuff like Two Pints of Lager and a Packet of Crisps and My Family are definitely British and are called 'comedy' in the TV listings. But if you agree to do Yes, Prime Minister marathons then that's OK:)

Also Chris Morris is blatantly the true legend, not Steve Coogan/Alan Partridge.

Can you sum it up in a sentence?
    No.
    A word?
    No.
    A sound?
    uuuuuugh.

    12 Feb 2005, 02:06

  4. Steve Coogan is king!!!

and i can assure you, My Hero, The Vicar of Dibley, Hardware!!! et al will not be appreciated by the group!

Dads Army to Peter Kay is where were looking, and Yes Prime Minister is deffinately involved!

    12 Feb 2005, 09:18

  5. [Panicking] "Don't Panic Mr Skidmore! Don't Panic!"

    I'll Join.

    14 Feb 2005, 01:34

  6. Yay! Dad's Army! I totally forgot!

Oh yeah, and there will be some Morcambe and Wise in there. Whether you like it or not. :)

Don't deny me the Christmas specials, especially not Anthony and Cleopatra.

You won't like it if I get angry.

    Love,

    The Treasurer.

PS: Administrators willing, the society blog should be up soon.

    14 Feb 2005, 12:01

  7. El Presidente

Morcambe and Wise at a push then… i really didnt find them that amusing, thought they were a little overrated, much like the 2 Ronnies, but they are a classic and must be appreciated by the group i guess…

Why did noone else find it strange that they always shared a bed with eachother?!

    14 Feb 2005, 13:51

  8. Noone really thought about it?

And they didn't have the bed sketches very often.

    A more innocent time perhaps?

    Nah. Maybe not. Lol.

    Love,

The Treasurer (ie, be nice to me I control the money)

What? What???? Some comedy snobbery going on here, methinks! My Hero is entertaining, if not in the league of Black Adder, and Hardware was very very funny!!!! And I don't like Alan Partridge.

    14 Feb 2005, 19:25

  10. hardware really wasn't funny and if u have any issues with the choice of programs… dont hesitate to take them up with el presidente…

    14 Feb 2005, 20:40

  11. Alan Partridge not funny??? Has the world gone stark raving mad?

I like My Hero too…very underated!

    14 Feb 2005, 20:56

  12. Jennifer Burt-Matthews

Yeah, Alan Partridge makes me cringe and I can't stand comedy that makes me not want to watch it. Does that make sense?? For example, I can't watch The Office for fear of scratching my own eyes out…

    15 Feb 2005, 10:23

  13. I understand.

    15 Feb 2005, 12:35

  14. el presidente!

Alan Partridge remains very highly on the agenda, i can assure Vicky G of that…

The Office was a top quality program, slightly overrated, much like Ricky Gervais and (i know i may sound unpopular for this) Jimmy Carr…

My Hero may have been undervalued, but it really wasn't amusing, and not in the same league as other such undervalued shows like Black Books.

If we ever get desperate for programs, then My Hero will possibly get a showing, but Hardware will never grace the screens while i am el presidente

Its a shame this society aint a democracy eh :–P

    El Presidente

    15 Feb 2005, 14:45

  15. la vuelta del Presidente

and dont get me started on The Brittas Empire….

    now that was crindgeworthy!!!

    15 Feb 2005, 14:47

  16. sar

methinks it might be time for a revolution….or perhaps a paramilitary wing of said cogsoc….do the muppets count as british comedy? the series was filmed in britain…..why just britsh comedy in any case? fascist!...any chance of a place on the exec? :D
only kidding…not about the position on the exec though
    *2D TV rules!*

    15 Feb 2005, 16:15

  17. Jennifer Burt-Matthews

Right bitch (Alex). My Hero is very funny. Black books is hilarious. Hardware was very very funny. And Brittas Empire was my main sustainance as a young child! How dare you…!!! And another thing… I think you'll find that any society is a democracy, and you actually have to be elected to a position on the exec, Mr I–elected–myself–president–like–that–tyrant–Bush!!!

    15 Feb 2005, 16:50

  18. Oh dear, this could get very hairy.

    First, everybody breathe.

Second, Jen, he didn't actually slag off Black Books.

Third, she's right, there has to be an election.

Fourth, unfortunately Mr Bush got himself elected (apparently) fairly, at least this time. And only three years and ten and a half months to go till they get someone else.

And I've never seen or even heard of Hardware before, so I really can't comment.

From She who dances with Wolves (not the football team. Duh.)

I know he didn't slag off Black Books, I was simply clarifying the situation.

I was refering to the first time around.

I'll download u some Hardware off DC++, it rules.

  21. el Presidente!

Not happy with some of the pre–establishment formation coups arising on el Presidente's blog! Please have the decency to wait for the society to be set up…

How am I already el Presidente? Purely because I have decided I am lol… When Vicky, Jill and I created the idea on Friday night while stood with traffic cones on our heads shouting 'look at me im a giant witch.'

I may have to be elected but I'm pretty sure ill win, given elections are easily rigged, and furthermore, last time i didnt win an election, i took up another role, brought the whole company to a standstill and allegedly ran off with over £250… and if I dont win, I'll sulk :–(

    Viva el Presidente!

    15 Feb 2005, 21:02

  26. yeh, c'mon alex a.k.a. el pres. whatcha doing about recruiting ppl??

    15 Feb 2005, 21:07

  27. Wow, what a commotion i missed. :D

As Gavin points out, we aint getting anywhere just arguing over President. (I say we all call ourselves president so we can all put it on our CVs.)

So yeah, we need one of those society forms..oh, and members.

Shall we have a date where everyone interested in joining meets up and signs up?

  28. Dean Love

you can never be desperate enough for My Hero, and I can't believe you're at 27 comments and no mention of Fawlty Towers or Python.

PS – finding somewhere to watch all this stuff: not as easy as you might think.

    16 Feb 2005, 03:25

  29. hey Vicky G, have you been reading Michael Moore?

    :)

I say it's a superduper idea, but I don't know if you're allowed to do it.

    Hmm….

Anyways. The fact that you allegedly ran off with money, Mr Skidmore, is the reason you are not provisionally in charge of the money.

And the blog still hasn't been made live, which is irritating.

    Hurry up people!

    16 Feb 2005, 08:28

  30. Administratory people, obviously. Not you guys.

Anyways, I braved the resources room in Union North today, and we have soc forms!

    Yay!

Yeah, btw Alex, unless some other poor soul volunteers, you're pitching this to the socs fed.

PS: We are different to the Comedy society because we do sitcoms et al rather than appreciating stand–ups.

    Just so you know.

    16 Feb 2005, 10:43

  31. Yeah, i have read michael moore, lol!

Oh yay, you got a form! woohoooooo :D
