What's Up With Warwick?
Last year I studied abroad in Portugal and despite my general lack of enthusiasm for life at Warwick, I was looking forward to seeing how the campus had improved over the year I had been away. The answer is – it hasn't. It's got worse!
1. I was hoping that in the wake of some pretty cool British indie music over the last year, Warwick students would have woken up to the idea of getting a life and not attending Top Banana or school days. Do you have no pride in yourself? And don't tell me that you don't really like the music and you just go for a laugh. You don't – you all love it because you're lame and you think you have a chance of pulling some equally lame and drunk bird. On the few occasions I have attended these events, I was driven crazy by the music. if you like good music you can't like the union.
p.s. I admit that chikinki were superb – but it's a drop in the ocean.
2. Where the hell am I supposed to watch the champion's league on a Tuesday? I was forced to watch it on a tiny screen in the airport (that's The Bar for my younger readers) with a twat of a DJ pumping out unbelievably shit dance music and inviting us all to "make some noise". I would rather have heard some noise from the commentators mate. Gone are the days of the stadium style situation in the airport which was awesome; comfy seats, no DJ, big screen and commentary.
3. Kaleidoscope changes its name to Cafe Library! One of the worst name changes in history, although The Airport to The Bar is still the worst. This happened between 01/02 and 02/03. With the dumbing down of television and politics, I guess that the University Entertainment and Restaurant Naming Department is following suit and employing a rugby player to name their establishments.
More to follow people. Leave comments if you agree with me. if you don't – go away.

[Skip to the latest comment]So I'm a twat then. Bothered. But seriously – get a grip. Pull your head out of your ass, stop being so serious about the whole affair and enjoy cheese events for what they are – precisely what you said: a bit of a laugh (which, believe it or not, a lot of people DO enjoy). Otherwise, DON'T GO.
Instead, show your support for Crash and Late Night Live, support the local music scene, get out there and discover new music. Join The Boar, join RaW, help to discover and push new music. Throw your energy into something productive instead of simply complaining about the stasis of things and do something to effect change, even if it's just for yourself.

Would you like people to change to better suit your liking? Do you really think the campus should turn on your whim?
It's simple to opt-out of events that you don't enjoy. Yes, in my opinion(that last sentence was an important rider you neglected to include in your tirade), union nights and music are pretty shit. Personally, I suspend my musical elitism and enjoy a night with friends, those times that I do go to Top-B or whatever. However, I don't believe my partialities nor yours really warrants a C-change in campus life.
Granted, the name changes are dodgy: myself, I'm more annoyed that the library didn't spend the money instead on more books. It remains mayhem when a core text is in short supply.
In terms of music however – which seems to be the thrust of your critisicms – I think you should realise that some people do not place music so central in their lives. Certain folks just like a catchy tune that they can bob along to and do not care about its origins/genre or credibility. It is not for you to denigrate that. There will be areas of interest in which you have little interest. Perhaps you don't care what equipment is in your PC nor desire to play games online until the wee hours with it. Perhaps you have a car, but don't care about its specs/year of build/body kit. People have different interests, and it would be just as wrong for them to criticise your naivity in, say, football, as it is for you to criticise theirs' in music.
Anyway, that's what I think.
Ciao

"If you like good music, you can't like the union" I don't think thats strictly true… Just because you don't like the music doesn't mean you should ignore the union as a good place to meet friends and just chill out. Aside from that, you might think that a large proportion of people on campus are 'lame' due to their taste in music, but I'm sure there are those who think that you're 'lame'... so really what does it matter? No-one is asking you to mix with 'lame' people if you don't want to.

Personally I find my enjoyment of a night out to be directly related to the company I keep. I could even enjoy Soul Nation if I was with the right people… maybe.
At home I listen to rock and metal, when I go out I listen to soft rock and cheese. Everything has it's time and place, except for outright insulting people who have different tastes to you.

Actually, I'd rather read Natalie's blog than yours. In fact, I had already subscribed to hers. I find reading someone's poetry more interesting than reading a physics student with apparantly limited social skills trolling for flames.
I don't like the type of music that the union plays. It's entirely focussed on 18 yr olds who are living on campus and generally getting pissed. But still, trolling's not going to help persuede anyone to change things.

Bloody hell.
Talk about bitter & opinionated!
Whatever you do, don't DARE to dispute what this guy has to say, because no matter what you say you are WRONG!
NO SOUP FOR YOU!
Like Max says, i'd rather read the blog of someone who talks about something rather than using their blog as a method of launching insults at everyone.

Calendar? I don\'t need one. I basically spend all my time just complaining about stuff, and not trying to just enjoy myself. Basically I need to get out and do something I actually enjoy.'; g.style.fontSize='200%';"> This is all very interesting. Personally I'd rather the blog system had fewer bugs.

Top B is crap…but its better than nothing.

Top-B…..read this Blog…...Top-B…...read this Blog…...Top-B…....read this Blog….....
hmmmmmm, tough call.
I think I'll go to the Prominent-Yellow Fruit.

Nice surname Spooner – hope you have a great night with your fellow spooners at Top B – YOu Cunt!

I have to agree with Peter there Tony…..bags of misfortune with a name like spooner. Unlucky.

Peter,
I like your style! I know it's a sad reflection on me that I actually bother to read any of this rubbish (but hey – I used to be interesting a long time ago) but yours is amusing!
Keep the faith…

"I would rather have heard some noise from the commentators mate"
mustve been a pretty shit DJ if you actually WANTED to listen to the commentary…

I kind of agree. Looking around the union, its quite nice – the bars look quite swish and posh etc. But what about a good, traditional style pub environment? Good selection of beers, jukebox, bit of sport etc?

Interesting – I too am not a huge fan of Top B. I simply opt to stay at home and maybe go to Crash (not much better in my opinion) or go to some of the places on offer in cov. collosseum usually has some quite good bands playing, as well as ridiculous prices on drinks and the facility to dance awfully – maybe you should check that out.
i think the thing to realise is that there are a lot of people who go to and enjoy top banana and they were never going to read your blog and think 'actually he's right, im not going, i am a musical retard!'. they are always gonna stand their corner just as i would if someone was having a go at me for no apparent reason.
sounds boring and so bloody tame, but you're just gonna have to 'accept people for what they do' and get on with it. you ain't gonna change the union with a blog.

you're funny :-)

not just top b. I went to Soul Nation last week and it was not cheesy at all. If it was not for keeping a friend company who came from Malvern, I would rather go home and sleep.
ps. I didn't know that The Bar was named The Airport before. Names are getting easier and People's minds are getting blank.

I agree, I too studied away last year (well I did a year in industry in London). Returning to a campus after living in the most vibrant city in the country was going to be hard, but I didnt realise how hard!!
The Bar will always be airport. It makes you feel even older if you call it that though, maybe best to move on with the times!! Its bad enough as it is when all the freshers are the same age as my little bro!!
I feel like sometimes im gonna suffocate – especially when the only night life here on campus is varsity or the union which is controlled by ex students (I'm a soul nation fan – saddened by the fact that they have banned all my grad friends who are not WGA members!!!).
I feel that people here are too bubble wrapped – university id meant to be a wide choice of experiences, but mayb we are approaching a bottle neck. I dont think there will be an R+B night next year because of the decision to ban most of the loyal punters.
However there is lots to do society wise if you can find one you like. The arts centre has lots going on, but its nothing on a city. I think we're luckky compared to some other campus unis which dont haveour facilities. But my overall feeling is that the union and the university do to much to keep the bubble intact.
Piece of advice – I too have trouble stomaching the A-tema theme tune at Top B, or Vanilla Ice at school days. Unfortunately most people here like cheese, and therefore on mass nights out, I find Absinthe handy before you enter the union!!!! lol, not only numbs the ears but the senses as well.

What is this about?
Don't know you, Peter, me ol' mucker, but you are – if we're all being fair – a hairy gash.
Its perhaps not unfair to suggest your bitterness stems from you mother's reluctance to engage in sexual activity with an all-too-eager you during your formative years.
You really should sod-off back to Portugal. Alternatively, perhaps beg your father to engage in homosexual practice (rimming?), and that way you can remove your head from your all-too-egocentric arse.
Your social ineptitude ineptitude is overwhelming.
Oh, and I'm a theatre student. Which is funny, ahahaha – what a useless department, ahahaha. I am, however, more employable than you, since I'm not a cunt.

And, Jen Marsden: get a fucking grip.
I'm a Fresher, I'm your brother's age – ew!
The fact that you delimit people using age with regards to intelligence/capability just shows that your brother must be a bit of a spakker.
If you dislike Warwick so much, sod-off to a city.
Both of you get a life.
I stumbled on this by accident; whingeing like this appears to be your life.
Grow up (enjoy that touch of irony?)
