Credit Card Sercurity

Follow-up to WHAT is the POINT of Mastercard Securecode / Verified By Visa from nathanielho.com :: blog

I tried to buy something on scan.co.uk today. And thanks to Mastercard Securecode / Verified by Visa terminals yielding their ugly heads, I ended up making FOUR orders by accident. Twice with Visa, twice with Mastercard. Card errors this time, I didn’t even get a chance to prove I’d forgotten the number!

So I called Scan up (online banking was no help at all), and the nice guy at customer services said he’d sort it out for me, because despite the fact the verification process failed, its likely they’d be processed anyway! So like I’ve said before, *what’s the point of it?* It would be better if there was a clear objective for it. All vendors should coordinate a point in time when every online transaction requires it. Just like the signature cut-off period when Chip and Pin arrived. They should start making people use the verification PIN from a predefined set date. Only then will people take it seriously, make good and secure PIN numbers for it.

WHAT is the POINT of Mastercard Securecode / Verified By Visa

Its just another bloody PIN to forget

Mastercard Securecode/Verified by Visa is supposed to make online transactions easier and safer! You set up a special online PIN code for online transactions. And frankly its a pile of crap. Its supposed to be more secure as only the cardholder is supposed to be able to make the Securecode/Verified PIN code to prove the cardholder is making the actual purchase. That's still not foolproof as you can see.

But there's only 3 online retailers in the world who probably use it. I had to create a Mastercard securecode 2 weeks ago, because I'd forgotten my Visa code, and now I've forgotten my Mastercard one. ARGHHGHHH

HOW ON EARTH DO YOU EXPECT ME TO REMEMBER 2 different PINs for EACH CREDIT CARD???? 3 credit cards = 6 bloody PIN numbers!!!!! (Excluding debit cards) How am I supposed to renew my domain now huh!?!?
