I definately agree with it if you're talking about experiences rather than diseases anyway!
It may be tough at the time (whatever it is that you are going through) but afterwards, knowing that you made it through can only make you stronger.
Hey – please don't call me penelope – the name's penny only i don't think i can change my username from penelope cos that's what the uni has on their records!!!

Please take Penny very seriously when she says don't call her Penelope. I learnt that the hard way.
Also, don't mention the Thunderbirds Lady Spy in front of her either…
You shouldn't be ashmed of your name, your names Penelope. Your parents named you and you should just accept it….......I mean, honestly, whats wrong with the name Penelope? Whats so bad about it that you dont want people to call you it?

i dont really care what people call me.
unless it is offensive, i will answer to almost any name under the sun.
Hey – i don't really care – just saying i prefer to be called penny, and stephen was only joking about learning the hard way ( i hope so anyway)!! call me what u want- see if i give a damn-twas only a comment.

Yes Penny, I was only kidding. There's nothing wrong with prefering a shortened name. My Dad prefers to be called Mike rather than Michael. Anyway, Penny's much nicer!
Also, you can call Penny whatever you like, as long as you don't actually mean it!!!!!

i disagree. anything that doesn't kill you screws your head up for life, ruins your outlook and messes up any prospect of a 'normal' relationship with someone. messing up their head too.
depends what ur talking about i guess – but in my experience you have to try and turn a disaster into a triumph (yeah i know at the time when someone said that to me i could have hit them – but its true) – you have to try and turn whatever has happened on its head and learn something or take something from it. in life shit happens – its the way you deal with it that's important – it will make you stronger if you let it.

The saying is simply an encouragement for those of us who are dealing with hardships in life. In reality, whatever doesnt kill you (eg. diseases, experience, broken hearts) can either scar you for life or make you stronger if you choose to learn from it. The weak ones will not recover and hence be left with a damaged soul; The strong ones will survive and turn the negative into a positive and benefit from it. It’s also a good way to start a conversation (with people who are in despairs) and share with them how you personally overcame a similar difficult situation and become the person that you are today.

I too have a nickname
I’m Tony
I use my nickname because it use to be people could not say my real name. After a while you get tired of people saying it wrong. Some people refuse to say it right.
I’ve had many teachers that refused to be corrected.
Now people joke about my name.
It has gotten old but it still is not right.
I am typing up a report on human fallibility and happened to think of the phrase what does not kill you only makes you stronger.
I agree.
If you are close-minded then you may not see the thing that makes you stronger.
Or you just give up instead of fighting/pushing back.
In many instances this is the case.
