Project Comet

Writing about web page http://www.sixapart.com/comet/

So I was interested to read that SixApart, the makers of Movable Type, TypePad and Livejournal, yesterday announced their newest thing: Project Comet. Their premise is that there are lots of people who might in principle want to blog but whose particular needs aren't well met by the current crop of blogging tools. So the kinds of things that SixApart identified as being desirable for Project Comet include:-

  • Community aggregation: Gives you the ability to share sections of your blog with other users in an elegant and customizable way.

  • Privacy options that let only certain groups read your content.

  • Dynamically driven pages that can be organized by keywords and topics.

  • Adding photos, audio, books and music reviews, etc.

Looking at that list gives me something of a warm and fuzzy feeling, since those are almost exactly the same types of features which we identified as being important for our own blogging platform. It's pleasing and reassuring to see that other developers take the same view.
