Catering staff

The Westwood/Raffles debate has certainly evoked a great deal of response.

One other point which I think is very important that may have been overlooked in people's disappointment on losing their respective places to eat and meet – and that is the treatment of the staff who work there.

I think the catering staff are quite badly treated under normal circumstances and probably one of the lowest paid too. However, now moral is extremely low – they have been issued with redundancy notices and told they have to reapply for another 'possible' position within the university. I guess many feel so shocked, upset and badly treated that they wouldn't want to work here even if another position were available.

They don't even have the voice that we (the staff and students) have in email, blogs etc

My heart goes out to them.
