Green Day and Compilation CDs

Music front cover
Title:
International Superhits! Parental Advisory [Explicit Lyrics]
Artist:
Green Day

4 out of 5 stars

In order to move home to Canada last November, I had to liquidate my whole library of DVDs, CDs and most importantly, books. The whole collection was far to heavy (and therefore costly) to ship and many of the DVDs were Region 2. While some may regard getting rid of personal possessions as therapeutic, I found this material shedding particularly painful. In the end, I'm back at home and my whole music, literary and film collection of the last seven years has disappeared and is sorely missed. :-(

Consequently, I've had to begin collecting again. I've learned that rebuying one's whole CD, DVD, book collections from scratch is an impossibly expensive task and I've therefore decided to buy CD compilations of bands where I can. Now, this does make the heart bleed if you look at your CDs as trophies or a chronological life journal of sorts. You do feel a little fake, buying compilations and not having the seperate records…something like those who jump on a bandwagon without the appreciation of an artist's history of production. But in the end, who cares? Having said that, I've recently purchased Greenday's International Superhits in an effort to replace my Dooky, Nimrod and Warning collection. This 22 track collection is FAB and Greenday is number one on my top-five-all-time-greatest-bands-ever list. While you may miss out on lesser songs you remember from the individual albums (like "Misery" from Warning :-( ) you do get all the cool tracks up until they released American Idiot on one disk to play in your car, legally…...Great disc….Superb band.

New Norah, same sound (almost)

Music front cover
Title:
Feels Like Home
Artist:
Norah Jones
ASIN:
B000184C8M
Rating:
4 out of 5 stars

This is Norah Jones's follow-up album to Come Away with Me and it's more of a grower but still fantastic. While the jazzy under and overtones are still there, there is a tendancy in this collection to lean towards a sort of American Bluegrass sound. Some of the songs are collaborations with other artists (who are riding Norah's coat-tales if you ask me).

This album will grow on you if you're a Norah fan and you'll enjoy it as much as the first. If you're not a Norah fan and would just like to have one good album of hers in your collection, then buy Come Away with Me instead.

My fave tracks are:

What Am I to You?
The Long Way Home and
In the Morning

The BEST bathtub music in the world

Music front cover
Title:
Come Away With Me

Norah Jones

5 out of 5 stars

This album is just fantastic for anyone who enjoys laid-back, jazzy, sultry music to relax to. It's full of American style backporch kinds of songs and I'm convinced that it has the power to lower high blood pressure. Everything comes together perfectly, the writing, the instrumentals and Norah's vocals combine to make (in my opinion) the best music for lazy summer day barbeques or long car commutes or hour long baths…

My fave tracks are:

Come Away with Me
Feeling the Same Way
I've Got to See You Again

High Fidelity –Style–Top–Five–Greatest–Music–Tracks–List

Kay, i've decided to note my current Top Five list of tracks. This list changes periodically (as all good top five lists should). Included are tracks from across the genres and eras. Some are, in fact, cheesy but still fab…

5. Don't You Want Me – Human League
4. It Had to be You – Harry Connick, Jr.
3. Sweet Child of Mine – Guns 'N' Roses (for Abby Babby)
2. Fortunate Son – Credence Clearwater Revival

and in like a rocket at number one:

1. Come Away with Me – Norah Jones
