The Doctor Who Companion's Guide to Life
So NewSeason 4 of Doctor Who starts up on Saturday (6.20pm, BBC1, I believe).
Woohoo!

And as such I feel the need to comment on it, and dispense pearls of wisdom, and such.
So, taking inspiration from here
If I were a Companion, I would…
1) Wear only flat shoes, preferably with ankle support.
2) Not wear skirts or dresses, unless I had trousers on underneath. (Because that would be the episode which required one to climb scaffolding)
3) Not wear any jewellery that jingles, jangles, or smacks me in the face when running for my life.
4) Have a fitness regimen that prepared me for: running for my life on a depressingly regular basis; hanging off ropes and switches; jumping onto stuff; fighting off baddies; and breaking out of jail.
5) Carry a first aid kit at all times.
I wonder if anyone’s thought of The Doctor Who Fitness Programme?
Maybe with instructional DVD led by Rose/Donna/Martha/the Tenth Doctor? In character, naturally.
I’d buy it. But then I’m weird.

So now, two episodes in, what’s the verdict? Is Catherine Tate worth watching? Is she an eyesore on British telly? I’m unsold either way, what does Jill think?

I have decided that I love Donna. Though it has to be said that the mother-and-daughter snarking gets a bit old. We’ve had it once before with Rose and Jackie, so come on! Give us something else! Love nonetheless.
That said, she’s a bit dim sometimes. But her unbridled enthusiasm for the universe is very appealing.
Also, she’s grown up a bit.
Also, she’s sarcastic.
Also ROSE! Doing spooky disappeary things!
So in short, I’ve been having tremendous Doctor Who-related fun.
Also, Hi Adam! How are you?

Hi Jill! I’m well, thanks, had awesome fun over the holidays at WiM and Spring Harvest. I’m moving back into Cov tomorrow, so will you be at church on Sunday? I’ll tell you all about it there if you are.
I fear I’m going to have a less-than-wonderful opinion of Donna, having rewatched the two episodes so far. Admittedly I like her wide-eyed-no-compromise morality, like with the Roman family. It makes a good contrast to the Doctor’s growing cynicism, especially when you contrast with, say, the Fourth Doctor, where he was the idealist and Sarah Jane the realist.
On the other hand, the rest of the time she is just loud. Not just loud but loud. I’ve found myself resisting calling “Oh just shut up!” at the TV before now, which isn’t a good sign when the companion’s only been there two episodes. She’s got a mouth like Avonmouth, as my Mummy used to say, and she damn well uses it. If she quiets down and stops getting on my wick, yeah, she’ll be good, but if she doesn’t, she’ll be the least successful assistant yet.
