About Mr. Joe Phish

About me. Well here’s the first thing that you should know about me. I find writing these kinds of things extremely difficult. But a little bird tells me that I should write one, so I will.

First, a little more about my writing style. Writing in this silly pseudo-conversation-ally way isn’t my thing either. I’m doing it for effect I suppose. I’m sorry it sounds a bit clichéd.

Right, vital statistics. I’m 21 in just over a month, about average height, dark hair (gelled up, just like the rest of the male population of students in the country) and have blue eyes (the best part of me, so I’m told). I’m average build (apparently slightly underweight, but you wouldn’t know it to look at me). I wear trousers size 32 on the inside leg. For my top I generally wear “small”, although recently I have been known to wear a women’s “medium”. Not my choice, my brother bought it, and told me it didn’t look toooo gay. I strive to dress stylishly, but it seems to get lost in the wash of students with exactly the same goal. My hotornot.com rating varies wildly. I’ve seen scores ranging from 2 to 9.5, so I really don’t know what to believe anymore. It’s currently hovering at 7.6, but my lovely, gorgeous, jolly girlfriend Elizabeth tells me that it’s not an accurate representation of me and that I’m much better looking than that. Anyway, these statistics appear to be getting less and less vital.

So, the first thing that you saw when you loaded this page was my degree: Computer Science. I have to say I’m impressed you got this far – most sensible people would have ran a mile. No wait, I should be proud! It’s not something to be ashamed of… hmm. Well I wouldn’t have preferred to do any other degree. I don’t even think I could have done any other degree, not to this level.

Right, my interests. And if we’re in the same vein of unashamed-ness, I’ll go right ahead and say it – I love computer games. I love everything about them (except for the most part the unnecessary gratuitous violence). What I especially love however is creating games, and everything involved in the way they are made. I love the design and art of them especially, but I also love the programming – it’s like a huge brain-teasing puzzle. I recently went for an interview at Rare , makers of games like Donkey Kong Country, Goldeneye and Perfect Dark, and my enthusiasm must have come across, because i got the job! Yay – I start in September!

Other interests. Movies, TV (currently Simpsons, Alias, The Apprentice and soon the new series of 24). Things like that. Less obvious interests… going for walks, whether long or short. Going to beautiful places, seeing things. Shopping. Geocaching with my brother. Favourite colour: changes depending on the context. What? Isn’t that a fair answer?

What am I like as a person? Well, obviously I can’t tell you exactly what I seem like to other people. I tried writing some lists like “what I would like to be” and “what I think I am” and “what I think I’m not” etc, but it was getting a bit personal. Let’s just say for now that I prefer the way I am drunk than sobre, but slowly but surely that is changing. Still a long way to go though.
