Neil Moore Artist (Paintings)

Writing about web page http://www.neilmoore.co.uk/

I just thought I would jot down a few of my thoughts about the work of Neil Moore, an artist based in Leamington Spa who constructs work with a haunting, hyper-real feel that explain, (yet further confuse me!) perspectives on life, birth, womanhood, and more recently human interactions with elements and the weather. Its difficult to describe, but fascinating in its quality. Moore’s work has been found in rock star houses, most notably of the Rolling Stone, much is in private collections, but yet even more is being exhibited or stored, waiting for people to fall in love with. In fact some of his best work is yet to be exhibited, so shy is Moore of swamping the London Galleries. Often investors are so taken with his work, they insist on buying before exhibition. I would always say to people to contact him direct if they like his work – because its best to peg it in its final stages than wait until the gallery slots come up – because the best ones don’t ever make it through that route.
I’ll aim to put some images here of paintings I particularly like, but for the moment here is the website http://www.neilmoore.co.uk/

Its difficult to explain how good these paintings are on the internet – the real one of Doll, 2008 (below) for example is huge, striking, superbly detailed and realistic and much more thought-provoking than the image below suggests.. but here it is in any case…
Neil Moore,

This is one that intrigues me – its kind of threatening, but kind of nice and depicts a situation we’ve all been in.. haven’t we?!?! One where a girls thinks that apeing male sexuality is all about dominance and submission (too much Cosmopolitan I fear!) .. that and its a fun pictrure that doesn’t suggest rape and abuse, but would were it a man on top (oh how positive the image of woman is today!)

Neil Moore,

EnergyPod SleepPod at Warwick

Thanks to ME.. We now have a nice place to sleep and nap on campus!

The Warwick EnergyPods have been installed in the Learning Grid, Biomed Grid and a special one for PhD Researchers at the Wolfson Research Exchange.

An EnergyPod, fact fans, is a device that makes daytime sleeping or ‘napping’ more effective – so that you recover from mental and physical fatigue quicker. More instructions and info are available at www.go.warwick.ac.uk/energypods

mmmm.. Naptime!!

Seriously there is loads of evidence that napping helps performance – to see more look at the pages above.

Mind you above all else its a cool experience to get a bit of nice managed kip in the day. I know I’ll be on them!

Woolworth's Demise

Oh dear, a very angry poem, but one I nevertheless quite liked! reminds me of the one in Leith…

Woolworth’s Demise

No more plastic no more noise

Lament the end of big store close

Where cheap teenagers lost their teeth

to one more glor’ious pick’n’mix thief

(Who learns the trade – for future junkie chic)

Pink tellies filling scum kids’ rooms

Hoodie-rotting cheap perfume

make up plastered on twelve year old graces

Attracts abortion from cratered faces

Smell of goat and unwashed boy

gang shapes and swear-words ahoy

Air of parents smell of gin

Oh what a shape Woolworths was in!

Filling estates with patchwork glee

‘Gorgeous bathrooms at 99p!’

Land-fill destined piles of crap

Fat old men giving kids ‘a slap’

Shouting girls in single vowels

Old women with weakened bowels

Ladybird clothes a saving grace

For parents with alcoholic face

Two years on from twelve-year old pride

(her husband might have well have died)

a child of a child raised ‘the woollies way’

(screaming miserable life away)

Piles cheapened sweeties on her plate

(strawberry sweeties clog up guts)

while Mother welcomes old-school sluts

No warm fuzzies nor cold pricks

Just smell of sugar on cracked-up lips

heart-raced buzz of cheap glucose

mother shouting, wanting booze

pushchair gathr’d round chain store bench

smokes away that schoolgirl stench

Empty carcass of England’s pride

Quickens the empty high-street slide

away from poverty and the scum

(Sky will keep them from the sun)

And teenager dating with made-up pride?

Save up for Starbuck’s? – Now you’ve died!

We don’t want to see you anymore

now interest rates have hit the floor..

We’ll give you more if you give back

Off your knees and on your back!

No more sweeties equals food

No more ‘plastic equals good!’

No more tellies made like toys

No more action men for psychotic boys

No more barbies – ‘we’re ‘aspiring’ girls!

no more make up or pretty curls’

No more cheap spoons or handy tool-kits,

Paradise as economic units.

What (extra) skills would you like to have when you leave Uni?

I've noticed that degrees are supposed to leave people ill–equipped for 'the outside world' and I wondered why this was the case..

and if so, what skills would be nice to have .. I would love to be taught how to set up internet sites with paypal accounts for example, but there must be more of these.. how about 'how to dress for work' or 'how to not end up making coffee'..

Any suggestions?

Student Ghettos!

Sir,

I felt compelled to write to you following your article on ‘Student Ghettos’ in last week’s Higher.

The foundation on which these arguments of disintegrating communities are based on is sheer student-hating prejudice. It would be interesting to see how the notion would switch if the same salivating MPs properly regarded the Students as constituents (which they are) and supported them instead of condemning them. If the MPs you mention already view students as ‘not part of the community’, is it any surprise that students act in contempt of it?

The truth though, is far from the picture painted by your article. My experience of living as a student and as a working ‘outsider’ in rented accommodation in low-rent areas, showed that the last thing inner city ‘local communities’ are is supportive and ‘community-like’. Mostly they are selfish, vindictive, and downright nasty when it comes to anyone who wasn’t born up and raised from ‘round here’, and this is what these MPs are encouraging.

The idea that Students create no-go areas that are yobbish and anti-social in comparison to the lovely community-loving locals is from a fantasy world where little fluffy bunny-rabbits skip around in tutus.

Student accommodation (as in Belfast, Glasgow and Leeds) is usually in areas that were derelict and in poor repair and dangerous BEFORE students moved in, and are less so now.

If you want to experience real no-go areas, you don’t go to a student area (where the ‘anti-social behaviour’ is usually good-natured drunkenness, littering and small scale recreational use of cannabis), you go to one of the ‘community’ estates filled with junkies, violent jobless youth, and street gangs, where whole families have ‘burning cars’ in the hobby section of their CV.

Large areas of rented accommodation without students, become no-go areas, those with attract investment, late-night facilities and improved bus routes, increase the number of people on the street with essentially good values, (right up until 2,3 and 4 o’clock in the morning – making the streets much safer), increase footfall for local shops and businesses, generate a buzz of life that the often miserable inner city sorely needs, and provide the income to regenerate old cinemas, theatres, and bars and restaurants. They redistribute wealth brought in from elsewhere, and live efficiently in shared accommodation whilst doing so, and are far likely to have socially responsible habits like recycling, buying organically, and doing volunteer work.

I live in an area where student housing is incredibly welcome – it brings in young optimistic people to the area, encourages landlords to renovate old property, and to build new flats, and keeps late night shops doing a roaring trade. Before students, next door I had .. junkie (who died from an OD in the house), then professional shoplifter, then teenage psychopath (came to ‘visit’ me with a carving knife and a hammer). None were members of the evil middle class!

Which would you prefer?

0709 BIG mobile phone scum scam, Fast Hang–up Scam Mobiles

Writing about web page http://www.fpb.org/YYTWHos.html

Just thought I’d highlight to all the recent 0709 prefix mobile scam (and i suppose any quick hang-up scam).

There is an automatic dial that cuts off as soon as the phone rings (or is answered). If you call the number back, it costs you min £1.50 per minute.. sometimes up to £50 per minute.

Don’t do it!
