my statutory right
Writing about web page http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/tg/browse/-/1161020/ref=cs_hd_hd_2_2_4/202-0910330-1263064
I read the following sentences from amazon.co.uk
By law, customers in the European Union also have the right to withdraw from the purchase of an item within seven working days of the day after the date the item is delivered.
Is that rule only apply to online shopping or to store shopping as well ?
I bought an item from one store. When i try to return it within 7 days, the shop manager say i cannot return it. After i quote my statory right, she said that only apply to faulty item.
should i belive her?

Hi,
Yes!
I've looked into this before. The law Amazon are talking about is the Consumer Protection (Distance Selling) Regulations.
These only apply to 'distance selling' transactions – like where you buy something on the internet, or over the phone.
If you go into a shop and buy something, it isn't a distance selling transaction, so you don't have as many rights. As the woman said, you can only take it back if it's faulty.
Having said that, a lot of shops will be nice to you and take it back anyway! That tends to be the big chainstores – smaller stores will only let you bring stuff back if it's faulty.
Sorry!

James is right. If you want more official information, then the OFT website has an awful lot, including some PDFs of leaflets. The one which covers ordinary shopping is here (pdf).

Oh, and I should have added. If you buy something in a sale that's faulty and the shop clearly indicated it was faulty before you bought it then you surrender the right to return it, despite the fact it may not work. Caveat Empor!
