Why Iran's nuclear ambitions are a Good Thing

You know why Bush Jr said what a thoroughly Right On thing biofuels are earlier this week, don't you?
Because he invaded Iraq, he has no military means to punish Iran for their nuclear programme, so it looks like he'll impose economic sanctions on them, which means the price of oil will rise, which Americans don't want (except those who work for the likes of Exxon-Mobil). So he needs a new energy source to champion and as endorsing nuclear power would be hypocritical in the circumstances (which never seems to bother George normally, but hey), he's left with biofuels – a renewable, safer, less greenhouse-effective source, albeit one which is presently at a relatively primitive stage of development thanks to underfunding.
The Iran brouhaha has acted as a wake-up call for the US government who've been practically blind to the fact that we're gonna be up shit creek with no fuel to get home in thirty years' time if they don't check themselves into oil addiction rehab. Of course, the EU had its finger on the pulse already and, through fine organisations such as my very own RPA, it pays farmers to grow energy crops like rapeseed.
So, in conclusion: hurrah for Islamic fundamentalism! Hurrah for rape!
