Earlsdon, Wints Wines

This weekend Earlsdon village was shocked to hear that Keith from Wints' Wines had died suddenly.   Mayfield Road was cordoned off. Police were everywhere and rumours were rife: Was it a break in? Had he been murdered in a violent attack? Was it the local chavs? Did anyone have any details? Wasn't it awful? No-one is safe nowadays! The neighbourhood has gone down the pan!

Everyone was speaking to everyone else, stopping them in the street to find out further details.  Most people were shocked and upset, some holding back the tears.  Where would they now go to get a video?

The truth was eventually revealed in that most excellent of local papers the Coventry Telegraph:

Shopkeeper dies after row with boy

Jul 31 2007

By Ben Griffin and Barbara Goulden

A POPULAR Coventry shopkeeper collapsed and died after a dispute with an under-age boy trying to buy alcohol.

Keith Hemming refused to serve the teenager and ordered him to leave the off-licence.

He showed the boy to the door and as he closed it he suddenly fell over and banged his head.

He died shortly afterwards. The tragedy has shocked customers and neighbouring shop owners.

- My thoughts and those of all of us who knew Keith are of sadness at the loss of a nice, kind and caring man and sorrow for his family.

Earlsdon

It occurred to me and perhaps has to others that living in Earlsdon is more of a soap than East Enders.  So, I have decided to write down some of the stories of Earlsdon as they happen, sometimes plain gossip, sometimes funny, sometimes tragic, there is never a dull moment.
