A little bit of a flashback

Over the last two nights I have woken up having had dreams of Warwick as I knew it, in spite of it approaching two years since I graduated and six years since I first started. Yesterday night I was dreaming of the Union and the Arts centre, mixed with a sprinkling of techie in there too. Of course this also include flashes of my current boss and other work related stuff in there too, which makes little sense. Tonight I’ve woken up dreaming of Arthur Vick, except the one I dreamt of was dramatically remodelled with a more open plan layout and many kitchens interlocked with the bedrooms. The strange thing is I was there with Emma and there was an Aga in one of the kitchen. I mean really… most people could barely cook pasta when they arrived at the time I did, how many of them could use an Aga?! The strange thing was all the names were on the rooms just as they were when I was there, every single one along the corridor was there and I was back in AV1, Kitchen 10 again in Room 220 just as before.

So what is going on in my head that is dragging me back to University? Is it that I’m ready to come home and it’s a reminder of familiar surroundings? Is it that I miss having a formalised learning program? Or is it just reminding me where so much of what my life is today was formed and not to forget it?

A freak of the first order

Normally I never remember my dreams, it just doesn’t happen. I assumed that either like Patrick in Coupling ‘not everyone has a subconcious’ or more likely that I never woke up during REM sleep. However in the last week I’ve been waking up and remembering dreams. This tells me my sleeping pattern is still not adjusted, yet I’ve been waking up before the alarm goes off too. Anyway the dream I had last night was just too vivid to not recount for other people’s amusement…

So I’m driving down the M4 in the NSL and we’re driving towards Reading. I’m in my car, and there’s a guy in front in a Silver A4 Cab 2.4 with the roof down. (I’m not making this up, I remember the 2.4 badge which also incidentally makes it an old model). We pulled out to overtake a load of slow moving vehicles and suddenly a weird lorry pulls out in front and we end up driving up into the back of it. It’s an HGV with a big wooden box and we manage to stop in time, rather like the Minis in the Italian Job. We look at each other, and he’s a tall dark haired guy with gelled hair that I don’t know.

The cars aren’t going to get out the lorry again (how they got in is a question for the brains trust) but we decide we are. The driver of the truck behind (It’s a white one) see us and flashes us with his lights and points to the front of his truck. The traffic slowed and we somehow crossed onto the front of the truck and held on to the grille. My feet were dangling and were nearly crushed between the lorries. I then look up and it’s granddad driving the second lorry. The other guy points and tells him I’m about to be hurt then jumps. We’re both hanging on to the front of the lorry but there’s only space for one person. As the truck pulls over to the nearside he shoves me and I fall off and roll down a long bank.

I assume I passed out or something because when I woke up I’m surround by most of Kitchen 2, and Phil. Why Phil I don’t know. Lolly tells someone that I need a stretcher and one appears. I then get carried through a huge crowd of people by Phil and someone else. Then Laura starts singing ‘Stand by your man’ (why would anyone do this… or dream about this?!?) and everyone joins in. Emma starts dancing along with Laura and Amy O and Amy H are happy too. Then suddenly they start singing ‘we’ve had lots of fun and it’s time to go’ (Childrens TV style?!) and off we all went. I woke up as I fell off the stretcher.

Now what the hell is that about!?!?!?!?!?!?

I’m such a freak.
