Marathon weather to equal record

Writing about web page http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/6579629.stm

Forecast – hot, hot, hot…
slightly takes the edge of the disappointment of not running London this year!

Photos should look great though :)

GOOD LUCK thoughts with everyone now milling around at Blackheath/Greenwich.

'Tis the season for…

Writing about web page http://www.runnersworld.co.uk/news/article.asp?UAN=1130

...NOT getting a place in the London Marathon :-(

Yes, it’s just starting to sink in that (yet again) I’ve failed to secure a place through the FLM ballot. It sucks. :P

Feeling gutted about this as (and I’m sure this will only make sense to very few of the readers out there) I really do get hooked on the whole big build up to what rocks as just the most amazing street carnival that I have ever attended!!!

(...and yes I do still head straight for a beer at the end ;-)

So, now that I am feeling stronger and fitter than ever before I’m going to have to find some other challenging endurance events or maybe head further afield for a 26.2 mile change of scene.

Any suggestions?

The morning after…

Follow-up to 2006 Godiva Half Marathon from Cath's Blog

That was a bit like hard work!

Really varied route much more interesting than last year. Better support on the course too. Warwicks cheer leading squad shattered the peace on an otherwise fairly quiet campus.

Probably set off a bit too quick for those early hills. The zig-zags through the Memorial Park at 11 mile were a bit of a drain on both mind & body plus that little incline in the last 1K took me by surprise!!!

Finish well organised and it’s got to be the first time that I’ve had a finishers t-shirt that fits!! :-)
(They’re normally a baggy XL)

I’m pleased with my time (around 1:45) and even more pleased with my recovery. I made it to trampoline session last night & I cycled to and from the race; it’s fun to know when you’re a touch insane! ;-)

I wonder if that route would work any better in reverse?

Edit: Official chip time 01:44:57: Female rank 37th

2006 Godiva Half Marathon

Follow-up to Sunday mornings… from Cath's Blog

5 Mile RunThe running shoes have been gathering a little dust over the summer, much prefer the bike and a dip in the pool when the weather heats up, but inspired by the new improved route (it really couldn’t be worse than last years!!!) for next months Lady Godiva Half Marathon I thought I better test the old legs out.
Took a steady (45 mins) lap around the block last night. Conditions perfect (except that at 20:30 it was already dark and I had to stick to the main roads.

Deep sigh, bye bye summer :-(

Anyway now considering entering Godiva & Kenilworth 1/2s and trying again through the ballot for London 2007 just to motivate me into a couple of running sessions each week :-)
