Lighttpd: mod_mono

Another project I've been doing/thinking about is porting mod_mono form apache to lighttpd, since I want to run asp.net in a reliable lightweight webserver. Although this requires me to learn how to write apache modules, so I can interpret the current mod_mono, how to write them for lighttpd, and for me to brush up on the C skills. I actually started doing this recently, when I got bored of revision, and it isn't proving as difficult as I first thought. Admittedly I haven't done much of it, in fact at the moment all it does is handle the requests for aspx files and return an internal server error, but I think I made good progress. I think the BFL would be a good opportunity to do it, when I get bored of being owned at DOTA.

Linux on a PDA: Finding the PDA

Since I will have very little to do after my exams, I have decided to start a little 'project' as it were, to try and port Linux on to a PDA from scratch. So I've recently been scouring the Internet, mainly eBay, to try and find a cheap PDA. Unfortunately this is proving difficult since I want a PDA with a keyboard, much like a Psion, but there doesn't seem to be many of those around, at least not in the 'cheap' price bracket. Earlier today I had my eye on a NEC Mobilepro 900C, on eBay, which was perfect for my needs,

  • 400MHz Intel XScale Processor
  • 64MB RAM
  • 8.1" Touchscreen

And various other handy things. At the time I spotted it, it was only £21 which was a bargain, but unfortunately had another 11 hours for the price to go up, and as you would expect, it did go up, to £80. Admittedly this still isn't to bad, but I think I'm going to leave it and see if I can can something cheaper.
