The Waffle House – possibly the best place ever?

It's an absolutely beautiful day today and I have gone around constantly thinking, in the words of Louis Armstrong, "what a wonderful world"! Met up with my best friend from school, Claudia, for lunch at the Waffle House in St. Albans. This is an old water mill which has been converted into a small, quaint restaurant and serves waffles of every shape and form, and the best milkshakes in the world. I have been going there since I was about two years old when my friend David and I would spend all our time under the tables, eating sugar cubes. Thankfully, I don't do that any more. Claudia and I had a really good time, sitting outside in the sun, doing what we do best – laughing and eating!

Right now, I'm packing my suitcase for New York where I'm flying first thing tomorrow morning with my Mum. I'm so excited since it's my first time in the Big Apple. What partly prompted me to want to go was one of my course modules, Drama & Democracy, where we study American drama in the C20th. It has really caught my imagination and I'm reading Arthur Miller's autobiography Timebends and have also got Elia Kazaan's in the pipeline. The city, according to my singing teacher Richard, is the best one on the planet and I can't quite believe I'll be there tomorrow. We'll be staying at the Algonquin Hotel for four nights and have even got tickets for The Pajama Game showing on Broadway.

So, with waffles in my stomach and New York on the brain, I am going to go continue packing.

You are indeed posting rather a lot more these days… a good thing! Anyway, I went to see "Good Night…" on your recommendation: really good, thanks for that one.
And I'm perhaps thinking that you do spend rather more time under tables than you would publicly admit, although for different reasons :)
    Enjoy New York!

    Hi

I was looking for the website for the Waffle-House in St. Albans, and came across your blog – I just wanted to say that I think the way you write is not far off from being “Marvellous” – a very enjoyable read indeed! Thanks. Gushyx
