Tonight's Ministerial appointments
So, Tony Blair announced his final cabinet appointments tonight. There are 2 things I'd like to comment on.Firstly, I see despite only hanging onto his seat, Leamington and Warwick MP James Plaskitt has secured a position as Parliamentary Secretary in the Department of Work and Pensions.
Secondly, what do people think of the appointment of an unelected policy advisor as a Minister, by virtue of a swift appointment to the Lords?

Our 'democracy' is a disgrace. The make-up of the house of lords should be determined by proportional respresentation.
Oddly enough however the real thorn in deomcracy's side in our green and pleasant land is the pseudo democracy offered by the house of commons. Labour only got 36ish percentage of the popular vote but they got a majority of 66. There is clearly a flaw in the system. Acquiescent toads, pardon my croatian, like James plaskitt should be kicked out of the commons

I have to say that is such tosh in light of the fact that White was out voted by a mere 300 – an absolute travesty if ever there were!

Forgive my confusion, but what is it that makes James Plaskitt an acquiescent toad? Is there something I've missed here. After the RaW organised debate with the Warwick and Leamington candidates in Week 2 I remember RaW News Editor Chris remarking that James Plaskitt came across as Ministerial material (whether that's a good thing is nevertheless debatable). He did win though…
