Producer Diary 6: Jam packed radio!

Writing about web page http://www.radio.warwick.ac.uk

Days to FM…... 7 days 3 hours 40 minutes

Wow! Has it really come this quickly?! Yes boys and girls, cats and dogs, in just over 7 days, at Midnight on Sunday/Monday, the rusty RaW transmitter will burst into life, electritcute some pigeons, cause a light aircraft to land on the library road, and start broadcasting sweet FM sounds to your trannyboxes.

But blow me if it isn't 'alf 'ard work guv'nor! After a short hibernation of planning and more planning, I've had my most jam packed week of radio yet.

Allow me to divulge…

  • Monday: held the radio play auditions. Initially the turn out was low and then suddenly, 20 people burst into the room, and were auditioned by the lovely people at CAP until they could be auditioned no more.

  • Monday also: Went to the STA Travel round the world open evening. Free beer, people talking, and I interviewed some travellers, one of whom was an american who actually used the word "narly"! Duuude.

  • Tuesday: the notorious AGM. I was there – the gimp with the microphone, recording clips for Campus Live's first package since I've been at Warwick.

  • Wednesday: Spent the entire day editing 40 minutes down to 5 in time for Campus Live at 5pm. Had to dash to seminar before I got the hear it though. :(

  • Thursday: Recorded lots and lots of interviews with people who've been to Mexico, Thailand, India and all over, for the travel show Itchy Feet…coming your way on Wednesdays!

  • Friday: Recorded more interviews, and edited an interview with Simon Lucas for Sunday's Insight news programme.

  • Saturday: Helped out with a 'how to make your show better' training session. Hailed as "yeah, pretty good" I spent 2 hours telling people how to prepare features for their shows…and then did it 4 times over. Wrote the new RaW Speech webpage (coming soon!)

  • Sunday: In at 9.30am to record the 1st radio play! Took just under 2 hours, and it's sounding sweeeet. Now I've just got to edit the bugger and record 2 more!

  • Sunday also: Went down into the union and interviewed some innocent people trying to have a coffee about what they thought about union drinks prices. Got told to fuck off several times. Then helped out with Insight, edited by this dude.

Toss knows where I actually did any work in all that!

So remember boys and girls: RaW 87.7FM from Monday 7th February!!

And keep coming back for the latest postings on all the exciting preparations. You love it.
